6’7, 6’6, 6’6, 6’4, 6’0, 5’11. This isn’t the heights of a basketball team’s starting lineup, it was my family lineup growing up. With 3 high school aged boys ranging from 6’4 to 6’7, all with excessively long arms, I vividly remember my mom’s frustration as we tried clothes on at the mall, never finding clothes that fit just right. We didn’t fare any better at the “Big” and Tall stores, we were growing up and not out.
Fast forward a decade or so, and I still have the same problems (though I have started growing out -- a whole different problem). Shopping for clothes is a roller coaster of emotions and usually goes like this:
Does this sound familiar?? It's a long, silly process that ultimately ends with sacrifices being made in either style or fit (or both!).
A mentor once told me to find something I hate and create a business to solve that problem. I've always hated shopping for clothes (see above). I just don't believe guys should have to sacrifice style for fit, or vice versa. So the seed was planted in my head to create an apparel company for tall men.
In late 2018, we started developing the brand, including working with a local designer who had experience with brands that we love. Our focus has always been on improving the shopping process for tall (not necessarily big) men. This focus lead us to:
It's now almost a year after we started bouncing around the idea of a tall apparel company and we finally have products in production. We're so excited to show you all what we've been working on. The products we've developed make me giddy. I remember slipping on one of our first samples (a long sleeve shirt) and feeling the cuffs on the sleeve hit the perfect spot on my wrist. It was something I truly had never experienced with a long sleeve shirt.
When you first slip on a Redwood Tall shirt, I hope you have the same "ah ha" moment I did with that first sample. I was so excited to finally have something that was stylish and actually fit. But I was even more excited to start sharing this experience with other tall guys through Redwood Tall.
